In the summer of the year 2000, a peaceful alien race called the Mirusian steals a weapon called the Deathsphere from a hostile alien race called the Ghastorian, and while attempting to transport it to a lab, their ship is shot down by the Ghastorians and they must crash land on Earth. Before they crash they shoot the weapon like a torpedo from the ship to some location on Earth. There is only one survivor of the crash, the least intelligent of the crew, who before they were attacked was using a highly advanced mop to clean the floor. He must locate the Deathsphere before the Ghastorians do. He gets confused for someone else and becomes part of a group having a beach party while the Deathsphere gets mistaken for a volleyball which some young people play with. The Maltrusian alien along with the Deathsphere go off with a group that separates from the party to go up to the mysterious abandoned house of the deceased Mr. Willoughby.

In addition, many episodes featured one-off guest stars, including Michael Crawford as Frank Spencer, who came in to find the whole audience dressed as Frank after Fantastic Stuart Henderson from Troon had performed as Frank singing The Beatles song "I Saw Her Standing There", and Ken Dodd in a highwayman's outfit - 'Going cheap at the Maxwell sale' - as Noel's long lost 'twin', Berasent.

Unlike her other show on the Food Network, Paula's Home Cooking, Paula's Party was originally taped in front of a small audience at Uncle Bubba's Oyster House in Savannah, Georgia, and Deen herself frequently interacts with members. In 2008, taping of the show moved from Savannah to Food Network studios in New York City. In the program, Deen offers help to audience members who have culinary problems. This new format allows her to be friendly with her guests; frequently she sits on the laps of various male audience members and feeds them sensuously, often making food-related double entendres. Almost all of Paula's family have appeared on the show: sons Jamie Deen and Bobby Deen, husband Michael Groover, daughter-in-law Brooke Deen, grandson Jack Deen, brother Bubba Hiers, and ex-husband Jimmy Deen. Paula's Party was first broadcast on September 29, 2006, and is currently broadcast on Saturdays at 7:00 PM Eastern Time on the Food Network.
